History of Fairfax
The area that is known as Fairfax today was settled by farmers in the early 1700s. At this time, the town was called Earp's Corner. However, when the courthouse was built during the early 1800s, the town's name was changed to Providence. In 1874, it was renamed Fairfax in honor of its founder: Lord Fairfax of Cameron.
